Adrian Sanders, Local MP and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Diabetes, and Diabetes UK are joining forces with Hansard Society to launch a new public online consultation to help assess the state of diabetes healthcare across the UK.
The online dialogue aims to give healthcare professionals and people with diabetes the chance to tell the government information about diabetes care from the grassroots. People’s views will form the basis of a report which will be launched in the House of Commons in December.
Adrian Sanders said,
“The pilot for the Diabetes Dialogue which I was involved in earlier in the year was a great success and I am pleased to be able to be a part of it again. Previously constituents found the resource very useful whether they themselves had diabetes or they helped care for a family member suffering from the condition.”
Benet Middleton, Director of Campaigning at Diabetes UK said,
“The best way to assess what is really happening on the ground is to ask people on the frontline. By gathering opinions, we can hold the governments to account and work to ensure that improvements are made. Following on from the success of the Diabetes Dialogue earlier in the year, this second consultation will be the perfect opportunity to assess where progress has been made and where improvements are still needed.”
Comments can be submitted by logging on to www.diabetesdialogue.org.uk between 26 September and 31 October. The discussion will focus around the following key areas: patient education, retinal screening, paediatric care, early identification, psychological and emotional support and a general discussion thread. Healthcare professionals can also help to ensure as many people as possible have a say by displaying a poster in their surgery or centre. Additional posters are available by calling 0800 585 088 or by contacting Adrian Sanders direct on 01803 200036.
