Following Prime Minister’s Questions on the 9th February, Torbay MP Adrian Sanders wrote to Tony Blair to arrange a meeting to discuss South West Water charges and their impact on households in Devon & Cornwall.
A reply from Downing Street states that the Prime Minister cannot accommodate this meeting due to his existing diary commitments and that the letter has been forwarded to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for review.
Adrian Sanders MP said: “We have met with Ministers from DEFRA before on this issue and they have led nowhere.
“The Prime Minister’s response is an insult to the thousands of South West Water customers who pay the highest charges in the country and are faced with the prospect of further increases.
“Either the Prime Minister does not comprehend the severity of the situation or his Government simply does not care about the people of Devon & Cornwall and the problems they face with ever rising water bills.”
